Hidden Treasure

 

Happy Monday loves! It’s a rainy long weekend and I’m reporting live from the place that I rest my head at night i.e my bed, and I must say I am fully rested. I’ve had a relaxing and exciting weekend and needlesstosay, I have little to complain about. It’s currently a long weekend here in Jamaica as we are celebrating the independence of our country. Initially I didn’t have much of a plan to make any kind of trip anywhere, but at the last minute, I managed to venture West of the island to the parish of St. Elizabeth. This parish, which is becoming one of my favorites, is a place I’ve visited maybe three times in my lifetime.

A few months back, somehow I ended up on the AirBnB website looking at places I could stay in New York when my original place of stay fell through (still a work in progress). I decided curiously to put “Jamaica” in the search bar and noticed while browsing that there were alot of people here in my own country who had been utilizing this avenue as a means of income and a way of tourism. I scanned all fourteen parishes and St. Elizabeth actually stood out to me the most. At the time, I was trying to plan a weekend stay and that too was proving to be rather difficult due to timing and funding. That research never left my mind and best believe it was on my “to-go” list. A weekend would have been heavenly, but a one day trip did suffice.

It was all I remembered and then some. As we drove from the main road that took us to the capital of St. E, I noticed how much more developed and populated it had become compared to the eight years prior when I visited. We made a quick bathroom and snack stop in the town and then continued on our journey to our destination. I was able to win over a nice older gentleman as he was picking mangoes on our journey and he gave me one of the biggest juiciest mangoes I’d seen in a long time ( that will be my dinner later today).

After hours of driving, three to be exact, we finally got to the popular  six mile long Treasure Beach. Being a public holiday, there were quite a few people there as well from locals to foreigners alike and people of all ages. The weather was a bit overcast but honestly I didn’t mind because I didn’t want to any harsh tan lines on me would last for months. As I snuggled my toes in the black sand, I felt like I’d never leave. It was perfect weather and the water was nice and warm. After an hour of swimming, we grabbed a bite to eat at Frenchman’s Reef Restaurant and watched the sunset on a relaxing Sunday evening.

Japanese Eats At Sora

Hey loves! I’ve been under the weather these last few days, but I couldn’t have the week end without putting out some well needed content. I had the pleasure of feasting with friends to indulge in one of my favorite foods: Sushi! The rooftop location was very private ( just the way I like it) and had an awesome view of the hills and surrounding city buildings. If you aren’t an outdoor kinda person, they also have the option of indoor dining. I can honestly say I’ve been a fan of sushi since trying it a few years ago. The food at this restaurant was divine. I know alot of people aren’t fans of the raw foods movement but that why I say it’s always a good idea to try it before you knock it and always educate yourself on things. You just never know. Knowledge is power. Sushi is primarily lots of raw options but there’s also delicious cooked options too. Goodbye My Lover…For Now

 

 

Okay, okay. So for the last five or six years, I’ve been a die hard coffee lover. I remember this all starting when I was in my corporate job. Getting up at the crack of dawn everyday was a struggle. Real struggle. And that’s where my love of coffee began.

Every morning when I had my mini breakfast (cheesy omelette with a slice of toast) before rushing off to work, a cup of Joe was its complimentary sidekick. After consuming that cup, I had the energy I needed to take on the day. As time progressed, I found myself craving a bit more. There was a min-mart at  gas station where I worked near to and after leaving work for the day, I’d stop in and get a cup to go. I. WAS. WIRED. That phase of multiple fixes didn’t last, however, but I still had my morning cup to get going.

I’ve been in a process of dietary change for the last few months and as the year has just begun, I wanted to commit to it wholeheartedly. I’m not here to bash coffee drinking in any way. The smell of it alone gives me an euphoric feeling and it does have its benefits.

This is my second attempt of giving up the cup of morning Joe. This first time I tried I was left with the worse headaches I ever had and after two days, I threw in the towel. I haven’t had a cup in almost two weeks and it has been quite the experience. I have had a lot of fatigue during the course of the day  and getting out of bed to start my day has been a challenge. Unlike the headaches I had before, in my first week, I felt back leg pains (I’m assuming because I no longer had caffeine my veins and it was so used to.)

I’ve managed to find decent replacements in that of a variety of teas and they have been working for me. I have been alternating between black tea, chocolate tea (hot chocolate) and ginger tea which can be found in most if not all markets. I sweeten my tea with a bit of cane sugar and milk if needed and then I’m good to go.

I say this to say, it doesn’t mean I’ll give up coffee FOREVER. My goal is to break the dependency I’ve created in consuming it everyday for years. Wish me luck going forward loves. Until next time.
