Return of the Mac – #NationalLipstickDay

beauty, fashion, Makeup, style, trends, Uncategorized

Hey loves! While scrolling Instagram in the wee hours, I noticed alot of #NationalLipstickDay posts being featured on my feed  because today is actually that day! Being a lipstick gal myself, I thought it would be fitting to do a feature on my extensive Mac lipstick collection that I own.

I’ve never been  much into the liquid lipsticks and lip stains that have taken over in the last few years as I’ve found that traditional lipsticks work best for me. I can remember years ago, before I started buying my own makeup, I was always fascinated in trying on the lippies my mom wore and had on her dresser top. As I got older, I started buying the Jordana brand at my local pharmacy as to avoid sneaking the ones mom had plus they were super affordable. Don’t sleep on Jordana, as they still have really nice shades on the low low.

About four years ago while online shopping, I really started noticing the Mac brand. I stalked the website and realized I loved their shades a lot and also the bullet like casing it comes in   ( who doesn’t love that sleek black packaging?) Plus once you see it, you know it’s Mac.

From 2014 since now I’ve managed to grow my collection to a total of 27 shades. I like having a wide variety of colors to choose from at all times as me choosing a particular lipstick for the day or occasion may be dependent on my mood or even the outfit I’m wearing. I’ve listed below each the shades I own and also the different shade group each one belongs to (whether nudes, pinks, reds, etc.) Comment below your favourites or the shades that you are considering trying out for yourself. Until next time. Xoxo.

It’s been a minute. Ok, ok. Maybe a little longer than that but I promise you, I had my reasons. Alot has changed in the last month, one of which included me heading back to the regular 9 – 5 ish. It’s been a while, but for whatever reason I felt this to be a necessary evil at this time. It’s actually a far cry from the corporate straightlacedness I’m used to but I need a more laidback environment right now. It’s not super stressful and I do quite like the people that I work with plus it’s an income stream I can use to cushion my blog and undying love for fashion. The only downsides are the day-to-day monotony and the lack of energy I seem to have at the end of every day.

It’s funny how life works out I think. I’m grateful for the opportunity that I’ve been given but I find myself constantly daydreaming at my desk of ideas I wanna share via this medium, not to mention sneakingly reading my favorite blogs online every now and again to get even more inspiration. The past month has actually motivated me more than ever to take this to another level. I see clearly now that I’ve found a passion for something, and that when people would encourage every individual to make a career doing something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life, I now truly believe them.

Even though I’ve been forced to balance work, life obligations and blogging, it works out perfectly for me because that way I don’t get bored and I can stay busy. A friend of mine, who also happens to take bomb ass photos of me, just got back into town and I managed to get some photos taken for this particular post. I’ve had this outfit from Boohoo for about two months unworn and it gave me corporate chic vibes. It’s even more so fitting because it’s actually my life at the moment. And God knows I loveeeeeeee black. I paired it with my red Gucci inspired handbag I got at a local store to give the outfit the pop of color it needed. I had fun taking these shots and I do plan on even more outfit posts very soon. Comment below if you dig this outfit and are a Boohoo babe yourself. Until next time. Xoxo.

Throwback to Last Summer

beauty, fashion, inspiration, lifestyle, ootd, style, trends, Uncategorized

While I was going through some pictures on my laptop, I stumbled upon a photo album that was dated Summer 2017. This time last year was bittersweet for me so I cautiously opened it up. As I scrolled the items, I smiled a bit as it brought me back to a place of contentment. If my memory serves me right it was the first outfit post I ever did for my old blog website. I thought I’d share it here in the form of a post. A little throwback don’t hurt anyone right? 🙂 By the way, yes that’s me in the pictures. Yes I had short hair with shaved sides. I’m in the process of growing out my hair now, and I currently wear faux locs (naturalistas will know the struggle). Just thought I’d add that info so when you see a recent post of me, you don’t become entirely confused. Until next time. Xoxo.

Friendship & Betrayal

beauty, fashion, Friendship, inspiration, lifestyle, style, Uncategorized

Primarily I wanted my blog space to be about fashion and lifestyle, but based on how life is set up at the moment, I have a lot weighing on my mind which I’ve decided to share here and now on this platform. Ever since I was a young girl, I was a loner. I still am. I know my parents never understood it one bit, but they allowed me to live in my own world for a good part of my childhood and even into my teenager years.

I stuck to myself for the most part and had a few friends and that worked out for me. I found superficial conversations with people I wasn’t close to a waste of my time and that resulted in my circle being super small and intimate. Being much older now, especially that I’ve passed my 30th milestone in my life, I’ve made it my duty to keep my squad close. Or so I thought.

The two qualities that I admire most about people are their honesty and loyalty. I don’t need people around me to make me feel good or even make me laugh (I can do both), but one thing for certain is that I hate liars and people who don’t go hard for me as I do for them. In past “friendships” I’ve had, and I do emphasize had because they no longer exist, I found that these “friends” only friended me because we had a mutual friend or because they wanted something. As quickly as I realized this, these individuals would never hear from or see me again. It may sound harsh but it makes no sense wasting one’s time faking relationships that aren’t fulfilling.

So you must be wondering what really prompted this post. It’s mainly due to disappointment. The disappointment I currently feel because of someone I considered my closest friend. This person knows almost everything about me. Come to find out, this person hasn’t been living the life I thought they were. This betrayal has hurt me to my core and it won’t be easy to get over, especially because I thought this was my solid, straight-laced strong friend. I’ve always said that nothing surprises me anymore and it still stands. However, the revelation has brought a sorrow to my soul that will take some time to mend.

Hell, no one is perfect and I probably won’t be as harsh as I have in past situations, but I do know I will look at this person through different eyes. I really thought I knew this person and all their parts, but surely I was wrong. I say this to say, never be too sure of anything or anyone and just hope for the best. Life will throw you curveballs that you won’t expect and that’s fine. Those are the elements that makes us grow and garner lessons from them. Eventually, even if we don’t forget, we will have time to heal.

Until next time. Xoxo.

Hairy Situation

beauty, fashion, style, trends

Hey loves! So it’s been a minute but I wanted to share a bit about my hair chronicles because it’s been on my mind for quite sometime.  Regardless of the color, length and even the style of woman’s hair, the one thing we can probably agree on is it’s importance. It’s that thing that occupies the top of your head, that frames your face and basically the first thing most people notice when they see you (unless you have some other stricking feature/s).

For me, I’ve had my hair long and short, and I was able to rock them both ways. Let’s rewind to a couple years ago. I used to wear long tresses, whether mine or the extra extra I bought at the store for a sew-in, and that was my thing. I had my hair relaxed to straighten my hair from the tender age of 7. I wore my hair that way through high school, college and even my first and second corporate jobs cause I was comfortable with it that way and it was the easiest thing for me.

IMG_7369

Four years ago however, something inside me decided that I needed a change. It’s said that when a woman does something drastic to her hair like cut it all off or color it fire hydrant red or even both at the same time, it’s usually because she going through some life altering situation like a break-up, divorce or even moving cross country to a place where noone knows her and this is her  opportunity to start a “new life”. For me, it was just a gal tired of the same ol’, same ol’. It was a welcomed change and there was something oddly satisying about rocking that shorter cut.

IMG_7370

Anyways, fast forward to the present day, and guess what? I still have a shorter hairdo. This was mostly by choice as I even got experimental with my hair all together and did a low, nearly down to the scalp bald cut. N.B: I believe every woman in her life should do this at least one. (Inserts India Arie’s – I am not my Hair  song lyrics here.) Believe me, it’s empowering. That being said though, I am at the point where that sneaky little guy Boredom and his cousin Monotony are creeping in and saying, “it’s time to switch things up again, Terri!”

IMG_7372

I’ve been contemplating for some time to grow my hair back to even shoulder length. During my #cutlife days, I manage to braid and do sew-ins on my shorter hair a handful of times. For me, it just never looked right or I felt it was done correctly unless I really I had a decent amount of hair on my head to supplement the style I was going for. The downsides to this too was that with braiding application, I’d find that on the shorter hairs I had, there was no commitment to the braid and my actual hair and some of them would actually just slide off. With sew-ins, I’d find that I would have to resort to full head sew-ins (which I hate as much as I do wigs), because my actual hair would be too short to have any kind or leave out or parting space for it to look natural.  Hashtag: Hairstyle Disasters: Short Hair Edition.

I know the process of regrowing my hair can take up to a year and then some, but I am willing to because I’m over this short hair for right now. What I will be looking forward to is rocking longer hairstyles as I’d definitely have more options and I can finally stop tweeting how much I miss having longer hair!

If you are thinking about cutting your hair, here are a few things to keep in mind before you do:

  1. You can’t put your hair up or in a bun if you are having a bad hair day.
  2. You’ll be limited to only short hairstyles.
  3. You’ll basically be married to your hairstylist to keep your hair trimmed and styled so you look polished all the time.
  4. If you do decide to grow it back, it won’t happen overnight.
  5. If you are someone who gets bored easily, it may not be for you.

When it’s all said and done, hairstyle changes are apart of every person’s life. Right now, I’m craving some longer hair to keep me company. Who knows what I’ll be rocking in another few months? Comment below if you can relate to this post or share it with a friend who is a chameleon like myself. Until next time.

Xoxo.

My First Massage

beauty, lifestyle

Hello loves! So I decided that I wanted this year to be one of many firsts, and that includes wellness and health. My sister gifted me a full body massage as a Christmas present last December and I finally decided to make use of it (I think she remembered me saying I’d never gotten one and would love to experience it.) Cassandra’s Day Spa was where I was pampered and needlesstosay, it was awesome. Super relaxing and tranquil. My massage therapist, Maureen, did a fantastic job amidst the fact that I was indeed ticklish to certain parts of my body (I made it through like a champ), and the flowing conversation we had during the session definitely help to calm my nerves. I left way less achy than when I got there and even took a short nap when it was all over.

The location was relatively easy to find, situated in a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle and was located approximately 20-25 minutes from where I call home. The actual building was really cute and modernly decorated and had a contemporary interior design. All the pictures can be viewed below. The overall customer service was excellent and I can say I will definitely be booking another session soon. Let me know about your spa experiences by commenting below! Until next time.

xoxo.

On my Grown Woman Ish Vol. 2 : Favorite Scents

beauty, fashion, lifestyle

Hello loves! So as apart of my series, this is an essential element to any woman who needs to  complete her daily routine, and that is her SCENT. This goes hand in hand with appearance. Sight + smell = perfect combination. Now I’m highlighting my favorite scents at the moment, that I find myself throwing on more often than others. You may or may not like my favs and that’s OK. Everyone has different perfumes that they gravitate more towards than others. I’ve chosen two scents for daytime and casual outings and two for nighttime appeal, dressier more formal occasions. All the perfumes discussed I’ve bought in the 3.4oz or 100ml size because I think it’s the perfect size. Not too small to get lost or too big to haul around in my handbag if necessary. They are all affordable and can be found in almost any retail store and online.

Daytime Scents

IMG_6506

FANCY BY JESSICA SIMPSON

So how I found this scent was by sheer accident. I literally was in Sawgrass Mall in Florida on a trip and while in Burlington Coat Factory, I was browsing scents near the checkout line ( they do this so you can buy even more as you are about to leave.) I picked it up and sprayed it a bit amd being a lover of sweet scents, I decided to grab it. It retails for about US $25 – $40 depending on where  it’s purchased. It’s fresh and also sweet and not too overpowering.

IMG_6507

PINK SUGAR BY AQUOLINA

This one was an online purchase for me.  The “sugar” in the title gives it away easily that it is indeed a very sweet and fruity scent, but I love it. If you are on a budget and cannot afford the likes of Prada’s “Candy”, this is almost an identical substitute. What urged me to buy it was based on the reviews I had read online before buying. I liked what I read and proceeded to checkout and I haven’t been disappointed. The scent retails betwen US $15- $20.

Nighttime Scents

IMG_6509

REB’L FLEUR BY RIHANNA

This perfume I bought locally. Being a Rihanna fan, I couldn’t help myself. This was RiRi’s first scent she released seven years ago, and honestly the best one in my opinion. The perfume is the epitome of a nighttime scent and has the staying power to last throughout the night into the morning light. If you even apply enough of it, it will be all over clothes and other belongings. The strength of Eau de Parfum. I bought my first one four years ago and I’m currently on a second bottle. It retails between US $20 – $30.

IMG_6529

BLACK ORCHID BY TOM FORD

This is a classical dark fragrance. Unlike Reb’l Fleur, this scent can appeal to both men and women in my opinion. This was my most recent purchase. I’ve worn it twice and I’ve been asked both times out (by both sexes) what perfume I was wearing because they liked it. This one I also bought online (a risk taker, I know). The reviews there were mixed but I decided based on the description that it was right up my alley. Truth be told, it took a while for the scent to grow on me but now it’s definitely a go-to when I’m hitting the road with my girls for a nightout. It retails in the US $100 price range, but you can get it cheaper if you invest in a smaller size.

I hope you liked my scents as much as I do and please share what are your favorites that I can also try. Until next time. Xoxo.

On My Grown Woman Ish : Vol.1: Gel Manicured Nails

beauty, fashion, lifestyle, style, trends, Uncategorized

In corporate and regular life, appearance matters. Alot. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. What we wear and how we carry ourselves are key component for how we are perceived in the outside world. My focus for this post is Gel Manicured Nails.

Our nails compliment our overall look and our outfits. Alot of people think, “it’s just nails” but it matters. I’ve been guilty of not rocking perfectly done nails. I’d been a nail biter as long as I can remember but of late I’ve slowly broken the habit.

When I started working after university, I realized how awful my nails were. I didn’t want to give a bad impression to anyone either because I had to interact with alot of clients. It was then I decide to get my nails done for that professional look. I got acrylic nails. Acrylics became my best friend and I had them on constantly. I felt naked without them and that became my thing. As good as they looked however, whenever I decided to take them off or when I was gonna have a new complete set with my nail girl done, they were less than attractive. They were ill-shaped, soft and uneven. As a fashion and beauty lover, I’m always on blogs and Pinterest. I found a chic alternative in gel nails. I got my first gel manicure last October and I’ve been in love ever since.

The application is about forty-five minutes to an hour long and they dry instantly. I don’t have to worry about them breaking and the overall maintenance is low. Plus they don’t generally get chipped like when I used to do a at home polish session. The gel prevents that. These are some inspo pictures I found on Pinterest before I ever did my first gel manicure set :-

I got a white polish because I think lighter tones look better on my skin tone and makes it pop a bit more. Plus I love neutral tones. Stay tuned for more grown women need to know tips and recommendations.

Until next time.

xoxo.
